About the Adults and Housing Department

Who we help

The Adults and Housing Department supports adults and older people who are in need of personal care services.  This may be because of frailty, disability, mental distress or illness.

We also support adults, parents of children with disabilities and young people who care for someone who is unable to manage by themselves.

Promoting Independence

We aim to arrange services that enable people to live independently in their local communities, with relatives or friends, for as long as they want or are able to.  In promoting independence, we work closely with:

This ensures that everyone – whatever their disability, or religious, social or cultural background – has access to the best possible choice of services for their particular needs.

Assessing Need and Arranging Services

We have to work within the resources available to us each year.  Services need to reach those people who are most in need through disability, illness or who may be without the support of families, friends or neighbours.

So assessment of need forms part of the department’s response to requests for assistance.

Our services range from offering advice to arranging care services at home, within other family units or in day or residential care.  We also support carers of all ages who look after adults and children with personal care needs.
