Highways Design & Drainage
The highway and drainage design team prepares tenders, specifications for road and drainage schemes in Leicester. Tendered schemes are supervised on site and completed work valued by our engineers and technicians. The team also advises on the suitability of road geometry to achieve casualty reduction in the City.
Current work done by Highways Design Team
The following information is an update of work currently being overseen by the Highways Design Team:
1. Dunlin Road - Traffic calming scheme - Located just off Humberstone Road in the Spinney Hills area the works here are in the initial design stages and require the construction of speed humps, footway buildouts and carriageway markings to slow traffic around the Dunlin Road Primary School (which is a 20mph zone). It is anticipated that the works here should take approximately 2 weeks and may be done over the Christmas holiday period. More information can be found on Dunlin Road Consultation page.
2. Queensmead School - Traffic calming scheme - Located in the Braunstone/Western Park area of the city, just behind the new Leisure Centre. The works involve the construction of junction tables, speed humps and carriageway markings to slow traffic in the proximity of the school area. Specifically the works will target the sections of Hamelin Road and Winstanley Drive circumventing the school and all junctions leading away from the school area (Camville Road, Overpark Avenue, Winstanley Drive & Hamelin Road). Is anticipated that the works will be carried out in 2007.
7. Southgates Building Disable Access - Located at the junction of Millstone lane with Friar Lane the brief requires a design to be produced for wheelchair users to enter/exit from the main building without having to negotiate a stepped entrance. Design so far has required for the footway fronting Southgates Building to be ramped up using acceptable gradients and to the latest safety guidelines. It is anticipated that the works will be carried out in January 2007.
