Digital car park signs

VMS
Leicester’s parking guidance and information system plays a vital role in reducing circulating traffic and congestion in the city centre and helps make finding a parking space easier.

The city centre is divided into four coloured zones:

  • North (Blue)
  • South (Orange)
  • East (Magenta)
  • West (Green)

Drivers entering the city via any of the main arterial roads can follow the signs to their chosen zone and then onto the named car parks where there are spaces available.

The signs have been specified and designed by the Transport Systems Section; the system is based around a network of 31 strategically located digital signs.

The system links all of the city centre’s multi-storey car parks. Data is transmitted to the central system from the car parks via a fast communications link enabling the system to send car park occupancy data back to the digital signs.

To obtain an up-to-date details of available spaces at one of these car parks, enter the Traffic & Travel website and click on the car parks tab.
