FINANCIAL YEAR 2005/2006

PROVISIONAL Programme of Works for the remainder of the London Road Corridor Improvement Project (LRCIP) as at 8th Feb 2006:

Between St. John’s Road and Knighton Park Road- All works (installation of a toucan crossing, Srtip widening, associated cycling facilities, lighting and road markings) are now completed except Yellow Lines and repalcaement of the bus shelter near Duke's Drive, which will be reinstated between 9/1/06 and 31/03/06)

Between Knighton Park Road and St. James Road Remaining works started on 09/01/06 and likely to finish by 31/03/06. Main elements include:

1. London Road / Mayfield Road Roundabout Improvements 2. Widening in Mayfield Road and London Road to create extra traffic and cycle lanes
3. Improvements to existing traffic islands
4. Installation of associated traffic signs in London Road & affected side roads
5. Installation of associated road markings
6. Installation of Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) - Yellow lines & TRO signs
7. Lighting improvement as necessary.

8. The central island landscaping improvement will start when the roundabout works are completed. This work is expected to be completed within four weeks from its start date, which is likely to be April/May 2006.

Between Toller Road and Clarendon Park Road. The following works will be carried out between 9th January 2006 and 10 April 2006.

1. Carry out London Road / Stoneygate Road signals improvements, including the turning prohibitions and other TROs in the area (No Right Turn from Albert Road into London Road, Yellow lines in Albert Road / Stoneygate Road)
2. Install a Refuge in London Road at the county-side of the junction.
3. Install a pedestrian refuge in London Road near Southernhay Road.
4. Install associated traffic signs in London Road & affected side roads
5. Install associated road markings
6. Upgrade Lighting where necessary

The following works were completed between 18/09/05 18/10/05) Between Knighton Drive and Toller Road:

1. Carry out Stoughton Road Junction Improvements
2. Install associated traffic signs in London Road & affected side roads
3. Install associated road markings
4. Upgrade Lighting where necessary.

Between the City Boundary and Knighton Drive. (Works completed between 10/06/05 and Mid August 2005)

Shirley Road Toucan Crossing

1. Convert the existing Refuge near Shirley Road to Toucan Crossing.
2. Install a traffic island in Shirley Road.
3. Install cycle lanes connecting the island & the crossing.
4. Install associated traffic signs in London Road & affected side roads
5. Install associated road markings
6. Upgrade Lighting where necessary.

Between Guilford Road and Knighton Drive

1. Convert the existing Pelican Crossing in London Road near Guilford Road to a Toucan Crossing.
2. Extend footway at Guildford Road / Knighton Grange Road.
3. Install a refuge in Guilford Road.
4. Install a cycle lane in Guilford Road to link up with Knighton Grange    Road cycle lane.
5. Install a refuge in London Road near Knighton Drive.
6. Install Green Surface in Cycle Lanes across the junctions
7. Install associated traffic signs in London Road & affected side roads
8. Install associated road markings
9. Upgrade Lighting where necessary.
10. Install Red surface in the central hatched area.

Bus & Cycle Lanes: London Road. (Works to be carried out between 9th January 2006 and March 2006)

1. Install cycle lanes in London Road in both directions between St. James Road and the City Boundary.
2. Install in-bound Bus lanes on London Road between the Mayfield Roundabout & Holmfield Road and between Knighton Drive and the City Boundary.
3. Install associated traffic signs in London Road & affected side roads
4. Install associated road markings
5. Upgrade Lighting where necessary.
