CCTV cameras monitor the main road network, which give a real time picture of the traffic situation throughout the City and the market towns in the County.
See Area Traffic Control Centre page.
The service also provides regular live broadcasts on Radio Leicester updating the public with roadworks and events and of the local traffic and transport situation on the roads throughout Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
See the latest roadworks page.
A real time passenger information system – Star Trak - is managed at the Area Traffic Control Centre. Star Trak provides ‘next bus’ information via signs at bus stops, via the Star Text system enabling users to use their mobile phones and text to obtain the ‘next bus’ information and via the Star Trak web site.
See the Star Trak page.
Significant European Commission linked research is carried out, particularly in the field of air pollution, so that traffic management and policy can take into account the effects traffic has on the quality of people's health in Leicester.
See the Air Quality Noise and Traffic page.
Transport Systems Section is also responsible for the maintenance of the traffic and traveller equipment, such as traffic signals, car park and traveller variable message signs and Star Trak signs. Please see the contacts page to report a fault.
The section carries out the design of traffic signals and other traffic related schemes. Other areas of work include NRSWA co-ordination and the preparation of the work required to meet the obligations of the new Traffic Management Act.
Contact Transport Systems Section Area Traffic Control Centre for traffic information and to report failed traffic signals or Star Trak signs.
