Leicester Shopmobility
Leicester Shopmobility is a scheme that offers anyone with a mobility problem through illness, injury or age the free loan of a Scooter, Powerchair, Powerpack Wheelchair and Manual Wheelchair. It aims to help people to do their shopping, use the amenities of the city centre and enjoy its surroundings or just to take in the sights with freedom and ease during the day.
Anyone who has difficulty walking whether temporary or permanent can use the Shopmobility Service. Joining the scheme is easy, but it is advisable to book ahead of your visit.
It is a free service that is core funded and managed by the Leicester City Council, supported by Highcross and Haymarket Shopping Centres. The two offices are run by a full-time co-ordinator; all other staff are volunteers who freely give up their time to help out.
All new equipment relies directly on donations, sponsorships and ‘goods in kind’ from customers and local companies. This has enabled the scheme to flourish. More details can be found here.
