Leicester City Council is pro-active in increasing the proportion of people who walk.
We are proud to say that a higher percentage of people walk to work in Leicester than in London.
Walking in Leicester has always been important and an enjoyable experience. Leicester’s New Walk was the first pedestrian only route in the county and still is an incredibly attractive route to the city centre.
Whilst the national trend for people walking to work is declining, in Leicester the number of people walking to work has remained constant over 10 years.
Leicester school children are realising the health benefits of walking to school and the percentage of children walking to school has risen in recent years.
Now adults are also realising the health benefits of walking.
