We have prepared a
template public notice to help applicants to meet the requirements of the Licensing Act 2003. The Act sets out detailed requirements for applications to be advertised. This applies to applications for
an exising licence to be varied or for a
completely new licence. The Licensing Authority may ask for evidence that you have advertised your application correctly.
There is a requirement to advertise your application in
both of the following two ways:
By displaying a notice on the premises where it can be conveniently read by the public:

Of size A4 or greater

On pale blue paper

Printed legibly in black ink or typed in black in font size16 or larger

For no less than 28 consecutive days starting on the day after the application was made

If the premises covers an area more than 50 metres square, duplicate notices must be posted every 50 metres along the external perimeter of the premises where it abuts any public highway
By publishing a notice in a local newspaper
- On a date not more than 10 working days from the day after the application was made
Both notices must contain the following information:
- The name of the applicant or club
- The address of the premises
- A statement of the relevant licensable activities included in the application
- The location of the licensing authority’s register (This can be given as Leicester City Council, Customer Services Centre, New Walk Centre, Leicester, LE1 6ZG, and www.leicester.gov.uk/licensing
- The date between which representations about the application can be made. (This is from the day after the application is made to the Licensing Authority, for 28 days)
- State that representations must be made to the Licensing Authority in writing
- A statement that it is an offence knowingly or recklessly to make a false statement in connection with an application and the maximum fine for which a person is liable on summary conviction for the offence.
