The general duties that will be carried out by the city wardens include:
Signposting city council services
City Wardens will be promoted as an on-the-street point of contact for the public in relation to all council services. They are able to help take enquiries and complants for other departments and pass the complaint through to customer services
Providing local information
Each ward has its own dedicated named warden and have the knowledge of local Council services and agencies for thier ward. within the city centre they also help visitors by giving directions.
Attending Ward Community Meetings
Every warden attends thier ward meeting and will feed back what they have achieved, what work is being done in the ward and also to listen to the public on what they would like the warden to address.
Participation in community initiatives
The wardens attend carnivals, festivals and fete, community initiatives and are able to provide a gazebo and information stand to promote the service, promote campaigns, education but also to engage with the local community and listen to the issues raised.
Promoting proper waste storage and recycling
Providing advice where waste is mis-presented, not being recycled, domestic flytipping, side waste, promote the use of the Councils free bulky waste collection service, advice and enforcement to businesses who do not have a legal waste collection in place with the correct documentation (waste transfer notes)

FPNs for unauthorised distribution of free printed material in the free distribution zone

Dog Control Order Offences

FPNs re waste receptacle offences (e.g. bins on pavements)

Nuisance parking offences (i.e. commercial sales or repairing on highway)

Failure to comply with Street Litter Control Notice (e.g. takeaway litter)

Failure to produce waste transfer/license documents (duty of care)

Removal of unauthorised signs on the highway

Smokefree FPNs (smoking in work vehicles)
Other duties that the city wardens undertake include:
- Unsightly premises & land reporting (proactive, rather than the current reactive approach)
- Dangerous & stray dog reporting
