Household battery recycling facility at Community Recycling Centres

Battery recycling
Battery recycling

Household batteries are now accepted at Leicester’s Community Recycling Centres – Bridge Road or Islington Street (Freemen’s Common).

A range of batteries can be recycled at the sites, including:

  • General purpose single use batteries: AAA, AA, C, button cells, 9V, D cell and C cell.

  • Rechargeable batteries can be recycled once they have reached the end of their life, such as laptop, mobile phone, digital camera and camcorder batteries.

It is very important that household batteries are disposed of properly and our new recycling service will ensure this happens. Most batteries contain heavy metals which, if disposed of incorrectly, may lead to soil and water pollution, and may also endanger wildlife.

Please note that our Community Recycling Centres are for house holders to use and they do not accept trade waste. Industrial batteries, batteries with terminal wires and batteries that have had these terminal wires removed cannot be accepted. Car and motorcycle batteries are also not included in this new service, but can be recycled at a different part of the recycling centre, please ask at the site.
