Glass is widely used in everyday life, from making your first coffee in the morning to enjoying a nice bottle of wine in the evening. Therefore it is essential that we recycle glass bottles and jars.
Did you know that …?
In Leicester, only a small percentage of the glass bottles and jars used are actually recycled, but together we can make a difference.
Let’s recycle more…glass bottles and jars!
-
Recycle them through the weekly kerbside collection
-
Take them to one of the many bottle banks located across the City. Try to plan your trip to bottle banks along with other essential activities such as going shopping or to school. This way the environmental impact of the journey is kept to a minimum.
-
Rinse all glass bottles and jars are rinsed before they are deposited for recycling – ideally in washing-up water you have in the bowl already to help save water.
-
Remember to take off any lids as these are not generally made from glass and will spoil the recycling process.
If you have any glass recycling questions or in fact any general recycling questions or would like to find out where your nearest recycling bank is please call Waste Management Line on 2527002 or visit www.leicester.gov.uk/recycling.
