New recycling scheme is being trialled

Man with orange recycling bags

It's in the bag!

A new kerbside recycling scheme is being trialled in four areas of the city started in September. The aim of the trial is to increase the current recycling rate by collecting a wide range of recyclable materials at kerbside. An orange plastic bag will be used to collect mixed recyclable – including cardboard, mixed plastics, tins and cans.

The orange bag pilot in parts of the Belgrave, Braunstone Park & Rowley Fields, Evington and Eyres Monsell wards started on 14th September 2010 and will run for six months. Residents in the participating areas have been contacted prior the trial to inform them of the changes to their recycling collections.

All waste in the orange bags are transported to a material recovery facility to be processed as recycling or as energy from waste. General waste from household wheelie bins will continue to be processed at Leicester's Recycling Plant otherwise known as the Ball Mill.

To find out more about the trial, please visit the recycling trial pages or call 0116 252 7002.
