If you think illegally dumping your waste on the streets, parks or open spaces or other people’s property is OK then watch your back… Carefully, very carefully.
You never quite know who might be watching, compiling evidence and ready to throw the full force of the law against you. Flytipping, Flyposting and defacing property with graffiti are all crimes!
Leicester City County environmental crime team is in hot pursuit of the offenders. Their constantly investigating incidents and where there is a real prospect of identifying the offender they are prepared to take action through the courts.
With valid evidence the environmental crime team have the power to seize and crush any vehicle involved in flytipping. What’s more they have a large support network to help them, the people who live and work in Leicester.
With an ever growing concern about preserving the quality of our local environment the residents of Leicester are showing increasing wiliness to report and capture evidence of environmental crime.
Getting in contact with the environmental crime team couldn’t be easier. If you want to report and show evidence of an incident a member of the team will come and see you at a time and place to suit you. If you simply want to report an incident and not get involved any further that’s fine too. Here’s the kind of useful information you could provide…
The type and nature of the rubbish being dumped, the location, times and frequency.
The name, address or perhaps a description of the perpetrator, if seen and finally the description of any vehicle being used in the offence.
Remember never approach perpetrators and look after your own safety.
Don’t follow the thousands of house holders who are caught out every year by unlicensed waste contractors who are not registered to take away their waste. The waste is often found illegally dumped which could mean trouble if it’s chased back to you. Always ask to see their waste carrier registration certificate and if you’re unsure about a contractor call this number…
Helping to look after our local environment ensures that the money that we pay for council services doesn’t get wasted on the high costs of clearing up the mess that other people create.
