Recycling at Home

In addition to refuse collection the City Council also provides a recycling service (door-to-door collection) to ensure re-usable materials are diverted from landfill and to help the city reach its recycling targets.

Flats

Flats will be assessed over the following twelve month period for the implementation of the new dry materials recycling scheme. In the meantime, please continue using the tri-coloured bins for your recycling.

If you live in a flat you may be able to recycle the same items in the communal bins. Unfortunately recycling facilities are not currently available for all flats, but we are looking at ways to provide these facilities in the near future.

tricolour communal recycling bins
  • Blue paper bin - Newspapers and magazines

  • White glass bin - Glass bottles and jars. Please rinse and remove lids.

  • Yellow plastic bottle bin - Detergent, shampoo, milk and fizzy drinks bottles. Please remove lids, rinse and squash.

× Cardboard and Plastic Packaging are not accepted in these bins

These bins are shared by residents and it is important that residents only put the items asked for in the bins.

To check if your flat has a communal recycling scheme please call the Waste management Line on 0116 252 7002
