Bulky Waste Collections

Bulky collection

Before using this service, please read our Reduce & Reuse pages for ideas on how to reuse your items.

Household bulky waste and garden materials can also be taken for free disposal to our Household Waste and Recycling Centres.

All households in Leicester are entitled to:

  • One free collection of up to five items of bulky waste in any two month period.

  • One free collection of up to 15 items of garden waste in any two month period.

Book a bulk collection online or call 0116 454 1002.

When you make your booking we will advise you of a definite day of collection. Your waste should be presented at an accessible point outside of your property by 7am without obstructing the public highway.

If you are unable to move your waste to an accessible point for collection or unable to arrange for help to complete this, we may be able to arrange for an assisted collection.  Please call 0116 454 1002 to discuss your needs with a customer services advisor to find out if this service is available to you.

If you have more than five items to dispose of you will be charged. The charge will depend on the number of items collected which will be advised when the request is made. Please note we will only collect up to a maximum of 30 items.

Pass It On Scheme

The Council operates a scheme to reuse bulky items by donating them to those in crisis through the Revenue and Benefits department. If you think you have a reusable item of furniture and would like to donate it, please let our Customer Services Team know when booking a bulky waste collection.

Please note that once items are collected by Leicester City Council or their representatives we reserve the right to dispose of or reuse the items as deemed appropriate. Leicester City Council reserve the right to not collect items for reuse if items are not currently required for the Pass It On scheme.

Any items of upholstered furniture donated through this scheme must have a valid fire label attached.

Please check to see whether you have a valid fire label attached to your item of upholstered furniture (e.g. sofa), examples include (but are not limited to):

If there is no fire label present, you will be asked to book a bulky waste collection instead.
