To mark Local Democracy Week 2005, Leicester City Council worked with
the School Development Support Agency to run a film-making
project for young people. The aim was to make a short film
reflecting young people's views on living in Leicester, focusing on
their
concerns - and the things that they would like to change - if they
could influence the decision-making process.
Students
from St Paul's Catholic School and Moat Community College were involved in the
project: they produced the video themselves, receiving training in
direction, lighting, interviewing techniques and use of the
camera/microphone.
The
project took place during half term and young people were filmed in and around Leicester.
The finished film will be shown at a special screening at the end of November.
Leicester City Council
also worked with Takeover Radio – a local radio station for young
people - on a series of documentary pieces related to democracy. The shows were aired daily during Local Democracy Week.
