Citizenship ceremonies

A citizenship ceremony gives you the opportunity for you to swear your oath or affirmation and to make your pledge of loyalty. All our citizenship ceremonies are conducted face to face and you will be given your certificate on the same day.

How do I book a ceremony?

You can only book a ceremony if you have received your invitation letter from the Home Office. You must ensure you book your citizenship ceremony within three months of being sent an invitation.

To make a booking email: Citizenship-ceremonies@leicester.gov.uk - please allow ten working days to receive a reply.

In the email please include:

your full name
your Home Office reference number
you contact telephone number
whether you wish to swear the oath or say the affirmation (see below with the pledge of loyalty)

A member of staff will contact you once we have received your certificate to arrange a ceremony.

Affirmation, pledge of loyalty and oath

Affirmation of allegiance

I (name) do solemnly, sincerely and truly declare and affirm that on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles the Third, his Heirs and Successors, according to law.

Pledge of loyalty

I will give my loyalty to the United Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. I will uphold its democratic values. I will observe its laws faithfully and fulfil my duties and obligations as a British citizen.

Oath of allegiance

I (name) swear by Almighty God that on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles the Third, his Heirs and Successors, according to law.

What do I do if I haven't had my letter?

Please email the Home Office Citizenship.Support@homeoffice.gov.uk if you have any questions regarding your application. The Leicester Register Office are not able to assist further.
