Determined Admission Arrangements for 2012/13

All Admission Authorities (Leicester City Council in the case of Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools and the Governing Bodies of Academies, Voluntary Aided, Foundation, Trust and Free schools) have a responsibility to consult annually on their admission arrangements for the following year. This information details the agreed changes to admissions policies of schools in the City for September 2012.

Admission Authorities are required to consult for a minimum of eight weeks before 1st March in the determination year. In Leicester this consultation period closed at midnight on 28th February 2011.

The general information about Leicester’s policies and arrangements for School Admissions can be found within our three booklets (Starting School, Transfer to Junior School and Admission to Secondary School). These booklets can be obtained from the School Admissions Service and are available online at

 www.leicester.gov.uk/schooladmissionsconsultation

Closing dates

The national closing dates will be 31st October 2011 for secondary schools and 15th January 2012 for primary schools.

Leicester City Council Proposals

Changes to Admission Numbers for Community Schools

The Council has increased the Admission Number at Mellor Primary School to 90

The Principle of Federated schools

The Council supports the principle of Federated schools and would seek to give existing children a higher preference for a school place at another school within that Federation (whilst taking into account the requirements for Looked After Children and children subject to protection plans). If a specific Federation is planned, the Council will consult on the specific arrangements for the schools involved.

Administrative Area

The Council has no plans to change the authority’s relevant administrative area (Leicester City).

Schemes of Coordination

The schemes of coordination for Primary, Secondary and for first time, Mid Term admissions are also available at

www.leicester.gov.uk/schooladmissionsconsultation or from the School Admissions Service.

Changes to Admission Numbers in Academies, Voluntary Aided, Trust and Free Schools.

The 2012 admission policies and arrangements for Academies, Voluntary Aided, Trust and Free schools can be found at

www.leicester.gov.uk/schooladmissionsconsultation or from the schools themselves.

There are proposed changes for Madani High School and the new Krishna Avanti Primary School is consulting on its admission criteria.
