How is the policy decided?
The local authority is obliged to consult on its admission arrangements and takes into account new DCSF guidance, local requirements and what is required of the LA by law. The LA decides policy for admissions to the schools it controls. For voluntary aided schools and the City Academy, the governors set the policy.
Those consulted include Headteachers, School Governors, Councillors, other Education Services, Legal Services, community leaders and neighbouring LAs.
Consultation is completed by March 1st, 18 months before the year of entry. This means that for pupils entering primary or secondary school in September 2012, the admission consultations were completed in March 2011.
Linked School Areas
Some addresses in the city do not lie within a school’s priority area, but in a “linked area.” A linked area is the area previously served by a secondary school that has closed. If you live in a linked area, you will have priority at more than one school, under the 5th admission criterion.
If you live in one of these areas, your form will have more than one school indicated as the Priority Area school in Section One of your application form for Year 7.
