“Transforming the Learning Environment is the best opportunity we have ever had to achieve excellence in school standards and opportunities for young people in Leicester.”
Councillor Vi Dempster, Cabinet lead, Children and Young People's Services, Leicester City Council.
Transforming the Learning Environment (TLE) is Leicester City Council's new integrated strategic approach to education for 0 to 19 year olds.
It brings together the biggest education investment projects the city has ever seen, where every secondary school will be rebuilt or remodelled, half of our primary schools will be rebuilt, and considerable investment will be put into other school projects.
With an expected £500 million investment over the next 10-15 years, TLE will impact on every learner in the city and for generations to come.
The two major programmes within TLE are
Building Schools for the Future (BSF) for secondary schools, and the Primary Capital Programme for primary schools.
Both programmes will provide schools that are flexible, inclusive and learning places that inspire pupils, teachers and the local community.
They support the transformation of education, raising of standards, improvement of the life chances and wellbeing of all children, the removal of surplus places, inclusion and the government's Every Child Matters vision.
The first rebuilt or remodelled secondary schools will open in 2009. Every primary and secondary school is now being consulted with, and assessed across a range of criteria so that future investment can be prioritised.
