BSF BLEYS

Beaumont Leys School's new BSF building opened in April 2009, six weeks earlier than planned.

The new building, which has facilities for 1,050 pupils aged 11-16 years, was officially opened on 18th June 2009 by Vernon Coaker MP, Minister for Schools and Learners, and has won several awards for its design.

Design features of the new school include colourful, transparent panels so that people can see the entrance and learning resource areas.

There are flexible teaching and learning areas, including open-plan learning resource suites with ICT equipment. The main hall has pull-out auditorium seating for flexibility of use.

The entrance foyer leads to the dining area, the main hall and the learning resource suites.  This part of the school makes up the community zone; designed to encourage the out-of-hours use of the school by local residents.

Beaumont Leys won both the 'best school' award and the Grand Prix award for design excellence at the nationwide Excellence In BSF Awards in 2009.

Tim Byles, the former chief executive of Partnerships for Schools, which delivers the BSF programme, praised the Beaumont Leys' success in completing the school six weeks ahead of schedule.

"But the real difference," he said, "is in the attitude, self-esteem and motivation of the pupils after moving into their new school."
