Arts in Education Service

Arts in Education Service

Arts in Education is the performing arts service of Leicestershire Education Authority and Leicester City Education Authority.

The service works with schools and colleges, parents and students in the performing arts: Music, Dance and Drama. In all three areas, we provide opportunities for Teaching, Performance and Curriculum Development.

Arts in Education staff believe that the arts should be part of the lives of as many students as possible. Students get a tremendous amount of pleasure from participating in the arts. They learn many social skills by working together with others of different ages and backgrounds; they become disciplined in their approach to work and recent research has shown that students who participate in the arts learn better in other subjects. Above all, students learn a wide range of skills in the performing arts.

The service is based at Knighton Fields Centre, a former college building which has been transformed over the years into a purpose-built performing arts centre. It has dance studios, music practice rooms, rehearsal spaces, teaching rooms, a recording studio and a studio theatre.

Leicester City Council share this service with the County Council. View more information on the Leicestershire County Council site.
