The work of all educational psychologists involves links with the full range of community and Cityservices for children and young people. Additionally, the service is currently engaged in a number of specialist activities that involve cross agency and/or corporate work.
Children in Need
The service makes a psychological and educational contribution to support: -
-
The aims of the Youth Offending Service: The service contributes to the assessment of young people referred to the YOS and through direct work and/or through consultation.
-
The City Councils commitment to improving the outcomes for looked after children through a dedicated post (Senior Practitioner, Looked After Children).
-
Child Protection. The service contributes to both single and multi-agency training
programmes. The Senior Psychologist with responsibility for this area sits on a number of ACPC (Area Child Protection Committee) sub-groups.
Critical Incidents
The service provides Psychology Service expertise to schools and the LEA in responding to critical incidents in schools.
Child Behaviour Intervention Initiative (CBII)
This initiative brings together multi-agency team members to work together for children,
parents and other professionals. The team provides cross-city support for preschool and primary aged children aged 0-11 years and their families. CBII aims:

To promote the life chances of children at risk of underachievement, educational failure and social exclusion
-
To provide locality-based support for parents/carers, children and front-line professionals
-
To promote an entitlement to psychological well-being, educational achievement and a wider ownership of mental health issues
-
To ensure children and families have access to support in reducing behavioural disturbance
-
To engage coherently with voluntary sector agencies
-
To ensure that issues affecting black and minority ethnic individuals, groups and communities are addressed.
