The majority of pupils with SEN will have their needs met in mainstream schools. Where a parent expresses a preference for a mainstream school, the Local Authoruty (LA) has a duty to comply with this request, unless the school is unsuitable to the child's age, ability, aptitude or special educational needs, or the placement would be incompatible with the efficient education of the other children with whom the child would be educated.
There are several education support services that offer support in mainstream schools for children with special educational needs and their families. These services are listed below, with a link to their individual web pages:
Parents may also request a place in a School with Additional Resources.
