Special Educational Needs - Transport

It is parents’ responsibility to get their children to school. However, some pupils who have Statements of SEN are entitled to free home-to-school transport, which is provided by the LA.

Transport will be provided where:

  • It is stated in a pupil’s statement that they require home-to-school transport, usually due to a medical need.
  • The nearest available school that is appropriate to the pupil’s need is more than 3 miles (2 miles if the pupil is under 8) away.

If a parent chooses a school more than 3 miles away, when there is a suitable alternative school within 3 miles, free transport is not provided.
