We offer wide-ranging support and advice to children with a visual impairment, their schools, colleges, families and agencies on behalf of the LEA.
Visual impairment may take many forms with widely differing implications for a pupil’s education. Some children are born blind or with partial sight, others may lose their sight partially or completely as a result of accident or illness. In some cases visual impairment is one aspect of multiple disability. The children we support are aged from birth to 16 years for mainstream pupils and birth and to 19 years for pupils in special schools.
Support services include:
- Peripatetic support for pre-school children, their families, playgroups and nurseries attended.
- Assessment and advisory support to schools and families with children at all Stages of the Code of Practice.
- Specialist teaching and advisory support to children with statements of SEN attending mainstream and special schools.
- In service training for teachers and support staff.
