Childcare Sufficiency Assessment

What is the Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA)?

The Childcare Act 2006 requires all Local Authorities to conduct a Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA), to gain a clear understanding of their local childcare market.  The assessment is split into 3 sections:

  1. Demand - The type of childcare parents and children want, when they want it and where they want it.
  2. Supply – what types of childcare are available, when and where.
  3. Mapping Supply to Demand – the gaps between what is available and what parents need.

Together the three sections form Leicester’s Childcare Sufficiency Assessment which in turn will form the basis of a Childcare Sufficiency Plan which will set out the priorities of the Authority and its partners for sustaining existing good quality provision and extending the supply of early education and childcare.
