First launched in June 2004, the Children’s Resource Centre is constantly in the process of improvement and development. The centre houses childminding and out of school clubs toy and equipment libraries, equipment for hire to groups servicing the community and a scrap store.
We hope to increase awareness of the significance of play in the education process. The centre is based at 70 Knighton Lane, Aylestone, Leicester LE2 8BE and is accessible by public transport from Leicester city centre. It is on a main arterial route out of the city, easily reached by car. There are ample parking facilities.
Scrap Store
Every day, businesses large and small generate tons of waste materials, which all too often are sent straight to landfill for disposal. Much of this waste is suitable for re-use in the community in play and education. Donating to the scrap store reduces disposal costs to businesses and benefits hundreds of children and adults. Though the scrap store is small, we aim to provide a good variety of quality scrap such as card, paper and fabric remnants. People who are members of either of our libraries are automatically members of the scrap store, and others may pay an annual fee to come along as often as they wish to take away scrap that could be useful to them.
Hire of Equipment
Suitable for play schemes and events, we have a variety of equipment that can be used to enhance the provision or to help with fundraising. We offer and interesting range of toys and equipment such as Games Parachutes, Badge Makers, Popcorn Maker, activity kits and much more!
Toy and Equipment Library
The library consists of a diversity of equipment and toys to help members set up, and offer an ever-changing assortment of books and toys for children in their care. We can offer equipment such as single, double and triple buggies, stair gates, travel cots, high chairs, booster seats and fireguards. These are available for a maximum of six months, and five toys for up to six weeks.
Meeting/Training Room
Our meeting/training room is equipped with overhead projector, flip chart, video player and power point access. It will accommodate a maximum of 20 people and charges are in line with city council Neighbourhood centres.
It is anticipated that groups will provide their own refreshments, though kettles and flasks are available for hot drinks.
The room is available between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm, Mondays to Fridays.
