Financial support for all families

What you might be entitled to

Child Benefit

Child Benefit is paid to the parents of every child under 16, or under 19 if either in full time education or in approved training.  This entitlement is paid, regardless of how much the parent earns or what savings they have.

Tax Credits

Most families qualify for Tax Credits. You may also be able to get help to pay for the costs of childcare through the 'Childcare Element' of Working Tax Credits.

Healthy Start Vouchers

Healthy Start Vouchers is a scheme to help expectant mothers, new parents and their children to eat healthily.

Low income families that are eligible can get free vitamins, and a voucher towards the costs of milk, vegetables (including frozen vegetables) and fruit (or infant formula milk if you have had your baby).

If you are pregnant and under 18 it doesn’t matter whether you are on any benefits or not, you will still qualify. Ask your midwife or health visitor about claiming Healthy Start vouchers.

Surestart Maternity Grant

This grant is available for families that are on low incomes and receive certain benefits. It's a one off payment aimed and helping parents pay for the cost of maternity and buying items for a new baby. This grant is tax free and does not have to be paid back.
