Parent and Toddler Groups

The Facts

  • Parent and toddler groups are where parents, carers, childminders, grandparents can relax and chat together while their children play alongside each other
  • They are usually held in churches, family centres and local venues
  • The age range is for children under five
  • Often set up by parents, the groups usually meet for a few hours once or twice a week. They don't have to be registered by Ofsted because parents and carers always stay with their children
  • Activities include messy play, painting, play-dough, singing, refreshments for children and parents.

How can i be sure of good quality care?

  • Parents/carers must stay with the child and are responsible for their child at all times.

What will it cost me?

  • costs vary but on average £1.00 per session which often includes refreshments.

Is it for me?

  • They often only operate in term time
  • Some groups are aimed at particular groups of society e.g. young parents/carers, parents/carers of children with special needs, first time parents/carer, childminders with children in their care
  • My child will be given the opportunity to join in new fun activities and play with new toys
  • My child will learn to socialise with others without having to be left alone
  • I will have the opportunity to socialise with others and avoid the feeling of isolation, by meeting people who are in similar situations.
