Day Nurseries

A day nursery provides care and education for children between the ages of six weeks and five years. (Many also offer out-of-school care for five-to-eleven year olds)
Day nurseries can be run by the council, the community, based in the work place or run privately
Opening times tend to match with the standard working day – 8am to 7pm on weekdays, 50 weeks of the year. You can send your child full or part-time
Your child should experience learning and development activities suitable for their age which are based on the Birth to Three Matters Framework and Foundation Stage curriculum.
Most also offer free early education places through Nursery Education Funding.

Always use a registered day nursery to ensure they are regularly inspected by Ofsted
Children will be grouped together by age and looked after by carers according to specified staff/children ratios to ensure your child gets the attention they need
The day nursery will have qualified staff and will usually take between 25 and 40 children

On average £148 for a full-time week for children under two, but rates will vary depending on the nursery.
