Home to school transport is provided free of charge for children if the school attended is the nearest one with a place available and the walking distance from home to the school boundary is more than three miles for pupils aged 8+ years, or two miles for pupils aged under 8 years, at the commencement of the academic year.
There are special rules for children attending Voluntary Aided schools on genuine denominational grounds. Free transport is provided for pupils who meet the general distance rules and attend the nearest designated Church of England or Roman Catholic school designated by the LEA for the child's home address. There is no special entitlement for pupils who attend Voluntary Controlled schools.
A school bus 826 travelling to St Paul's Catholic School is available for any student who is not entitled to free school transport.
If you choose a school, which is more than three miles away from your home, the cost of transport will normally be your responsibility. If we cannot offer you a school place, which is within three miles, we will usually pay for transport
There is a wide network of school buses in the City. Paying places may be available on existing home to school transport.
From 1 September 2008 for secondary aged pupils
If the child is eligible for Free School Meals or the family is in receipt of the maximum level of Working Tax Credits and the child attends any of the three nearest secondary schools closest to the home, and where the school is more than two but less than six miles away, they will be entitled to transport assistance.
For children attending faith based schools on genuine denominational grounds. If the child is eligible for Free School Meals or the family is in receipt of the maximum level of Working Tax Credits and the child attends the nearest appropriate school to the home based on a religious belief and where the school is more than two but less than fifteen miles away, they will be entitled to transport assistance.
