The City Council has prepared a draft budget for the years 2012/13 to 2014/15. The context to this is the very substantial cuts which Central Government is making to our funding. In 2011/12, the Government reduced our funding by over £30m in revenue grants and £20m in capital grants. Now, because of the continued squeeze, we need to reduce our spending still further, and our budget will save £22m in 2012/13, rising to £44m by 2014/15. Whilst we have sought to find efficiencies wherever possible, the scale of the savings is such that cuts to local services are inevitable. The full draft budget proposals are available for comment until 31st January, and can be found at www.leicester.gov.uk/budgetproposals
