Seals from the Islamic World
Seals from the Islamic World

Dr Annabel Gallop, Head of South & Southeast Asia section at the British Library and Dr Venetia Porter, Head of Islamic Collections, British Museum.  
will present a curatorial talk followed by a Q&A session on Wednesday 15th September 2010, 5.00pm to 6.30pm at Highfields Library. 

 

If you have any old Islamic seals or documents with a seal in an Arabic script, you can bring it along to the event to be identified. (Pre-booking required for having seals read.)

 

Carnegie 2011

What was the best writing for children in the last year? You read, you decide!  E-mail your comments to libraries@leicester.gov.uk marked Carnegie 2011.  

 

The Carnegie Medal is awarded annually by UK library staff to the writer of an outstanding book for children.

Also awarded is a Kate Greenaway Medal which was established in 1955 for distinguished illustration in a book for children.

 

All titles nominated for 2011 can be reserved or borrowed from Leicester Libraries. A full listing of the nominations can be found here.

At Beaumont Leys Library on Tuesday 28th September 2.00pm – 4.00pm

 

Born and raised in Leicester, Lynda is the eldest of four sisters. At the age of seventeen, she left home and held down a variety of office jobs and continued her career in office work after marriage and while raising her two children. In 1985 the family moved back to Leicester and in 1987, Lynda who had no previous asirations to be a writer, began writing her first novel during her lunch break. 

Lynda will be talking about her life and latest book –

'Secrets to Keep'
