Policies for your school

By law governing bodies must have written policies on some areas of school life, and these are listed below.

All policies should relate to the aims of the school/college and be meaningful, living, working documents. In order to achieve this staff, governors, parents and pupils need to be involved in their compilation.

  • Home-school agreements (except maintained Nursery Schools)
  • Instrument of Government
  • Performance Management Policy
  • Prospectus
  • Pupil Discipline (including Anti-Bullying) Policy
  • Race Equality Policy
  • Register of Pupils
  • Register of Business Interests of Headteacher and Governors
  • Review of Staffing Structure Document
  • Risk Assessments
  • Sex Education Policy (except maintained Nursery Schools)
  • Special Educational Needs Policy
  • Staff Appraisal Policy

Remember . . Policies and publications must relate to the aims and ethos of your school/ college.  They can be simple statements of principle OR incorporate codes of practice or detailed guidelines for staff.  Either way - Policies and publications should be clear, simple and brief
