Higher Level Teaching Assistant

All local authorities have recently received a letter from the TDA (Training and Development Agency for Schools) to say that as a result of Government cutbacks, the funding for the HLTA programme will not be available. This took effect retrospectively from the beginning of the financial year 2010-11. Unfortunately this means that Leicester City Council can no longer fund the HLTA programme.

With regard to the future of HLTA status the TDA have indicated that it will continue.  At present, the plan is that individuals will still be able to gain HLTA status, but the funding to support the cost of training and preparation will need to be provided from other sources including schools budgets or self funding.

We will keep you informed as and when we receive any further information on the future of the HLTA programme.

If you have any questions please contact Linette Reynolds, HLTA Administrator on 0116 252 6055 or by email to Linette.Reynolds@leicester.gov.uk
