An IYSS doesn’t seek to create a brand new service but we do attempt to work in new ways to improve life opportunities for young people.
There are a number of areas that will impact on services working under an IYS but broadly they can be summarised under four headings:
-
Identifying the local needs and requirements, recognising what is in place already and then planning services and support accordingly.
-
Staff from a range of services coming together as part of a multi agency response.
-
Getting better at sharing some resources across a range of services (e.g. marketing or quality assurance) and addressing how services share information and data particularly on those young in need of targeted youth support.
-
Integrated Service Hubs to continue to have a crucial role in identifying supporting young people who are vulnerable or at risk.
-
Review of training needs – recognising where we are and what needs to be done.
-
Supporting the “Common induction training” and “common core skill set” – ensuring the fundamentals of working with children and young people are in place.
-
Making sure specialist skills and qualifications available locally and staff are progressing with them.
See www.leicester.gov.uk/childrensworkforcestrategy or www.childrensworkforcematters.org.uk for more details.
-
Ongoing use of the Common Assessment Framework and lead professional to identify vulnerable young people.
-
The Team Around the Young Person (TAYP) working in Integrated Service Hubs (ISH) to co-ordinate and deliver targeted youth support.
-
Better sharing of data between services to highlight priorities, areas of concern and to demonstrate where we are making a difference.
-
Developing a longer term commissioning strategy that secures support and services for young people from a range of providers according to priority needs and to deliver the local youth offer.
