For Parents
The teenage pregnancy campaign has drawn on national, regional and local research evidence to help young people resist the pressure to have early sex. This would be through improved sex and relationship education and supporting parents talking to their teenagers about these issues.
The Campaign
As part of a teenage pregnancy campaign undertaken by Leicester City Teenage Pregnancy and Parenthood Partnership a viral video, docu-drama and website has been designed. The aim of this campaign was to raise awareness for all under-18's, on issues around relationships, teenage sex and pregnancy.
The website, www.hey-babe.co.uk also offers information on sex, pregnancy and answers to frequently asked questions whilst signposting young people to help and advice.
All videos linked to this campaign are available on this website including:

Parenting courses- Speakeasy
Speakeasy is a non-threatening, relaxed group-based educational programme which aims to support and encourage parents and carers to communicate effectively with their children and teenagers about growing up, sex, sexual health and positive relationships. The Speakeasy programme increases parents' and carers' confidence, knowledge and skills, to discuss and tackle challenging subjects that may seem embarrassing or awkward to approach. The programme enables parents to develop appropriate methods and strategies to bring sex education into daily family discussions.
"I'm much more confident in talking to my children. It took the embarrassment away and made me more open and able to explain things better"
"As a single mother with two growing boys I enjoyed discussing with other women and the staff their own experience and fears about sex and relationships and realised that I am not alone. I used the booklets given out during the course to sit down with my eldest son and discuss sex and relationships and how his body is changing and what to expect as he gets older"
The courses usually last around eight weeks and by the end of it parents will have:
an understanding of the physical and emotional changes taking place at puberty
awareness of what sex and relationships education means in the context of family life
confidence and skills in identifying and responding to the needs of their own children
explored societal and cultural attitudes towards sex and sexuality as it relates to children
knowledge of the different kinds of contraception that are available
knowledge of different STIs and methods for safer sex
gained information on sex and relationships education in schools
gained information and knowledge on keeping children safe from harm.
