Teenage Pregnancy Transitional Plan 2011 - 2012

Leicester’s Teenage Pregnancy Vision

We will contribute to improving the aspirations and life chances of children and young people in Leicester City so that they are able to make informed choices about their lives, their wellbeing and their health. In particular, we will focus on those children and young people who are most at risk. Through this work we will support the reduction of conception rates and ensure that the right help and support is provided for young parents and parents to be.

Our Goals

  • The new under‐18 conception target has been set and based on the trend over the last 11‐years of a declining rate in teenage conceptions. The proposed rate of 45.1 conceptions per 1,000 females aged 15‐17 by 2013 represents a 30% reduction in the conception rate since 1998.
  • 80% of known young people who became pregnant & parents under‐20 years are engaged as a partnership.
  • 50% of known young people in Education, Employment & Training (EET) who became pregnant & parents under‐20 years participated in local learning and support programmes.
