The naming of roads and streets, and the numbering of properties are two separate procedures that are carried out under different pieces of legislation.
Following receipt of Building Regulations and/or Planning approval, developers may need to name streets and obtain property numbers for new or converted properties.
Postcodes are not allocated by the Royal Mail until properties have been formally numbered by the council. Future transactions associated with new properties could well depend on the allocation of a postcode therefore it is important to obtain street numbers from the council.
Please let us know about damaged, missing or illegible street name plates by calling us on: 0116 22 32 010 or alternatively please email us at:

Finally, developers must notify the Royal Mail when new premises become occupied by contacting Royal Mail customer services.
