There are now many products on the market that can help cut the amount of energy used in the home and thereby cut your carbon emissions.
These range from A++ rated white goods, light bulbs and kettles through to radios and torches. Many come with the Energy Saving Recommended logo – which is your guarantee that these products are the most energy efficient in their category and will cost less to run.
Although the most energy efficient appliances are generally more expensive to buy, any extra cost is soon repaid by the amount you’ll save on energy bills – especially while energy prices are high.
You can also buy energy saving meters that enable you to monitor the cost of running your home. They are very simple to use and, once installed, you'll be able to see how much energy you're using every time you switch on the TV or any other appliance.
Some products, such as games consoles and digital TV boxes, use up to 70% of their "on" power when left in standby mode. Simple-to-use devices that cut the power to appliances left on standby are available, helping you to save energy and cut your carbon footprint.
