Leicester City Council runs the Food Standards Agency Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. For more information about the scheme and to look at food hygiene ratings for food businesses in Leicester and around the UK, visit: food.gov.uk/ratings.
Useful information is available if you are thinking of setting up a food business, including information for businesses who wish to produce food of animal origin and must be approved.
All food businesses must be registered before opening and any significant changes in the business notified to us. If your business is to be located within the City of Leicester, complete an Online Application to Register a Food Business Establishment form.
All food businesses must put into place documented food safety procedures where necessary. The Food Standards Agency has released a pack to help small catering businesses comply with this requirement; Safer Food, Better Business.
Members of the public can look at the advice for consumers about food safety at home as well as to learn how and when to make a complaint about food or food premises.
Food Alerts are the Food Standards Agency's way of letting local authorities, businesses and consumers know about problems associated with food.
