Postcodes are allocated by the Royal Mail to new properties, after the properties have been numbered by the City Council. See our Property numbering pages for more information. The copyright of postcodes rests with the Royal Mail.
The City Council does not supply maps of postcodes. However, you can find the postcode of any property in the city by using our City StreAtZ mapping system. Some commercial street atlases, for instance the Philips/Ordnance Survey range, display postcodes at the district level - the first part of the postcode.
For information on postcodes, and to query their Postcode Finder, view the Royal Mail web site: http://postcode.royalmail.com/. Free searches are limited on the Postcode Finder, but the Royal Mail also provide a business service.
