The City Archaeologist works to foster an understanding of the city’s past and
to preserve the remains of that past, along with the evidence that they may
contain. An important part of the work is
that of advising on the impact of development on archaeological remains.
These remains are not necessarily buried archaeological deposits, but may include the fabric of standing structures.
