The Daneshill Article 4 Direction was made by the City Council on 30 April 1991, and approved by the Secretary of State for the Environment on 29 October 1991. Daneshill was at the time a conservation area in its own right, but in 2008 it was absorbed into the larger West End Conservation Area.
The effect of the Article 4 Direction on these properties is that a planning application must be submitted for:
- Extensions to the house
- Outside alterations such as new windows and doors unless they are exact copies of the originals
- Re-roofing or alterations to chimneys, ridge tiles, etc
- Porches
- Covering gardens in concrete or tarmac and taking down garden walls or fences to make car parking spaces
- Putting up gates, fences or walls
- Covering the walls by rendering, stone cladding or other materials
- Painting brickwork or stonework
- Equipment for receiving satellite TV
- Putting up out-buildings within the plot of a larger building
Please contact the Council's Urban Design Group to discuss any alterations to the properties.
