Biodiversity and Wildlife

 

The city council protects and enhances wildlife and nature in the city through the planning process, and through the management of its own land. Advice and guidance is available: please contact the council's Nature Conservation Officer.


Planning guidance on Biodiversity: The Council's planning guidance on biodiversity and wildlife, and guidance on submitting wildlife surveys with planning applications.


The Biodiversity Action Plan summarises what is known about the most important animals, plants and habitats in Leicester.  It highlights the importance of City's natural resources both to its citizens and administrators, especially to our quality of life, and proposes a series of targets and actions.


Local Nature Reserves in Leicester: Seven of the best wildlife sites in Leicester have been designated as Local Nature Reserves.


The City Council works in partnership with Groundwork and other organisations on projects to improve and manage sites for wildlife, and to raise awareness of Leicester's biodiversity.
