Phase 1/ Aerial Habitat Survey

This survey can now be viewed in our mapping system - City StreAtZ using the link below

To display details of any Habitat types that cover a specific site that you are interested in, just click inside the site with the 'Information Tool'. Note that if you use a pop-up blocker in your browser you will need to allow all pop-ups from this site to extract information from the maps.

You can search for any property or site by address, postcode, building name or by zoom and pan within the map window itself. Hopefully the system is intuitive to use but it is recommended that you read the CityStreAtZ help to fully benefit from all the map sets and tools available. Help can also be accessed from the system's blue '?' button (top right).

The survey is a hybrid between an aerial survey (photographs from summer 2005) and Phase 1 habitat survey based on field visits made during 2006 – 2008.  Although the survey is based on the JNCC Phase 1 Habitat Survey (1993), modifications have been made to suit the urban setting.

All accessible sites were visited, and many privately-owned sites were surveyed adequately from adjacent rights-of-way, roads, etc.

Habitats of conservation value which were visited generally have Target Notes, and sites of conservation value have vascular plant species lists.

The Target Notes indicate candidate Wildlife Sites (WS), formerly known as Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINCs) - i.e. sites that meet the criteria within the Guidelines for the Selection of SINCs in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (May 2001) published by Leicestershire County Council.
