Cathedral-Guildhall Conservation Area: Character Appraisal

Cathedral-Guildhall Conservation Area

The purpose of a conservation area character appraisal is to preserve and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area, by defining and recording the factors that make the conservation area special, identifying features and problems that detract from this special quality, and suggesting ways in which the special interest could be safeguarded or improved. An appraisal also provides the opportunity to review the boundary of the conservation area.

The survey and appraisal of the Cathedral-Guildhall Conservation Area were carried out during 2006 following the methodology suggested by English Heritage. On 27 November 2006, the City Council adopted the Cathedral-Guildhall Conservation Area Character Appraisal as supplementary guidance to the City of Leicester Local Plan 2006, and approved amendments to the boundary of the Conservation Area. You can view a PDF version of the Character Appraisal by clicking the link at the bottom of this page.
