Market Place Conservation Area: Character Appraisal

Assembly Rooms
Assembly Rooms

The purpose of a conservation area character appraisal is to preserve and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area, by defining and recording the factors that make the conservation area special, identifying features and problems that detract from this special quality, and suggesting ways in which the special interest could be safeguarded or improved. An appraisal also provides the opportunity to review the boundary of the conservation area. The survey and Appraisal were carried out during 2 006 following the methodology suggested by English Heritage.

The City Council adopted the Market Place Conservation Area Character Appraisal in November 2007. You can view a PDF version of the Character Appraisal by clicking the links at the bottom of this page; the file is split into three parts to aid downloading.
