The Market Street Conservation Area Character Appraisal was adopted as Supplementary Guidance to the City of Leicester Local Plan 2006 in March 2006.
The purpose of the character appraisal is to record and review the character and appearance of the Market Street Conservation Area and to determine whether the area remains special and deserving of its ‘conservation’ status. The appraisal also identifies those features or problems that detract from the quality of the area and includes proposals for the management of the area so that its character can be preserved and enhanced. The survey and appraisal was carried out in 2005 following the methodology suggested by English Heritage.
